          7.      I am a shepherd. Several of my friends and family were in the hills that holy night in the spring time. We rejoiced in the goodness of God. The hills were green with grass. The sheep lay peacefully around us. Life was good. We loved God and tried to worship Him in spirit and in truth.

          私は羊飼いです。あの聖なる春の夜、私は数人の友や家族と共に野宿をしていました。丘には緑の草が茂り、神の恵みに喜びを感じていました。羊は気持ちよさそうに草の上に横たわっていました。満ち足りた生活でした。神を愛し、神を心からあがめていました。

          Do you know where the phrase, Athey sang like angels@ comes from? Angels did sing. I heard them. The brilliant light burst upon us. At first we were afraid. But a holy being, an angel, sent from the presence of God, spoke to us. We felt peace. When he spoke of the birth of the Messiah, we could not contain our tears. Then the heavens resounded in song. AGlory to God in the Highest,@ they sang, AAnd on earth peace, goodwill toward men.@

          皆さんは天使のように歌うという言葉がどこから来たかご存知ですか。御使いたちは確かに歌ったのです。私はこの耳で聞きました。そして太陽のように明るい光が頭上を照らしました。最初は非常に恐しく思いました。しかし神のみ前から送られた御使いが私たちに話しかけたとき、心穏やかな気持ちになりました。メシヤが誕生されたことを聞いて、涙をこらえることができませんでした。そして天の軍勢が現れて、神を賛美して歌いました。「いと高きところでは、神に栄光があるように、地の上では、み心にかなう人々に平和があるように。」

      I want to sing to you what Nahum Tate wrote of this wondrous event some 350 years before your time. (He sings While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night.)

          今から350年前にこの驚くべき出来事についてナホム・テイトが書いた歌を歌いたいと思います（賛美歌124番「羊飼いらが」を歌う）。

      We went to see the newborn baby. We found him in a cave with the animals. His mother allowed us to see him. We knew who He was. We testify of Him and leave our witness with you.

          私たちはこの幼な子を見に行きました。その幼な子は動物たちと同じ屋根の下で飼葉おけに寝かされていました。母マリヤの許しをえて、その子を見ることができました。これが誰であるか、私たちは知っていました。私たちは神についてみなさんに証します。  

          8        I am Simeon. I was very old when I saw them. I had been assured by the Holy Ghost that I would not leave this life before I would see the Messiah. I felt strongly I should be at the temple on that day.

          私はシメオンです。私はすでに年老いていました。しかしメシヤに会うまでは死ぬことはないと、聖霊からの約束を受けていました。そしてあの日、宮に行くよう強い促しを受けました。

      They were somewhat startled when I reached to hold the baby in my arms. But they did not resist, feeling something wondrous as I did.

         マリヤとヨセフは私が幼な子を抱こうとしたとき、驚いた様子でしたが、止めようとはしませんでした。私とおなじように御霊を感じていたからでしょう。 

This is what I said:

私はこのように言いました：

ALord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.@

「主よ、今こそ、あなたはみ言葉のとおりにこの僕を安らかに去らせてくださいます、わたしの目が今あなたの救を見たのですから。この救はあなたが万民のまえにお備えになったもので、異邦人を照す啓示の光、み民イスラエルの栄光であります。」

His parents marveled at my words. I blessed them.

マリヤとヨセフは私の言葉を聞いて、不思議に思いました。私は彼らを祝福しました。

          9.       I am Anna. I was 84 years old when his parents brought the baby Jesus to the temple. I spent much time in the temple. I loved it there. My husband died after we had been married only seven years. I have missed him so much. I felt close to him and to God in the temple. It has been my place of peace.

          私はアンナです。両親が幼な子イエスを宮へ連れてきたのは、私が84歳のときでした。私は夜も昼も宮で神に仕えていました。ここにいるのが好きでした。嫁いでから7年目に夫が亡くなり、以来さびしい思いをしてきました。宮にいると夫と神を身近に感じることができました。ここで安らぎを覚えることができたのです。

      At the temple, I fasted and prayed often that I might learn of God and find the power to do those things which pleased Him.

          私は神について学び、神のみ心にかなうことを行う力をえるように、宮でよく断食し祈りました。

      I knew immediately when I saw them that this babe they carried was the Son of God, the promised Messiah. I knew He was Immanuel prophesied by Isaiah. Through him, I knew I would be resurrected and eternally bound to my beloved husband. I couldn=t wait to share this glorious news with everyone I knew.

          彼らを見たとき、この抱かれている幼な子が神の御子、約束されていたメシヤであるとすぐにわかりました。イザヤが預言したインマヌエルだとわかったのです。このお方によって、私はよみがえり、愛する夫と永遠に結ばれることを知っていました。この素晴らしい知らせをすべての人に知らせたいと思いました。

10.     I am known to you as a Wise Man, a Magi. a King. And so I was when my friends and I followed the star to Bethlehem seeking the Son of God, the Savior of the World, the Prince of Peace, the King of Kings.

皆さんは私を東方の博士、王と呼んでいます。友と私は星に導かれて神の御子、世の救い主、平和の君、王の王を捜し求めてベツレヘムへやってきました。

We had searched the sacred writings and we knew the time was near. God blessed us to know. We loved God and sought to serve him throughout our days. We met together to study, pray, and speak of God=s wondrous plan for his earthly children. We knew a Savior and Redeemer was necessary and we knew He would come.

聖なる書物からその時が近いことを知りました。神が知らせてくださったのです。私たちは神を愛し、一生を通して神に仕えてきました。一緒に学び、祈り、地上の子らに与えてくださった素晴らしい神の計画について話しました。そして救い主、贖い主が必要であることを知り、そのお方が来られることを知っていました。     

We set out, following the star and the guidance we received from the Spirit of God. We had gifts to help the child and his family. We knew the gifts would be needed. We went to Herod to ask his help. We felt uneasy when we spoke with this corrupt King. We left quickly and did not return as Herod requested.

私たちは星と神の御霊から受けた導きに従って、出立しました。幼な子とその家族のために贈り物を持って出かけました。この贈り物が必要であることを知っていました。私たちはヘロデ王のもとへ行き、助けを求めました。しかしこの腹黒い王と話したとき、不安を感じました。ヘロデ王のもとを急いで去り、再び戻りませんでした。     

We found the child with his parents in Bethlehem. We gave the gifts and worshiped the child. We knew who He was. He came to earth for all of us, not just the Jews, but for all of us. God honored us by permitting us to see Him.

私たちは幼な子とその両親をベツレヘムで見つけました。贈り物を渡し、幼な子を拝みました。この幼な子が誰かわかっていました。このお方はユダヤ人だけではなく、すべての人のために地上へお生まれになったのです。神は私たちが御子を見ることをお許しになることで、大きな祝福を与えてくださいました。
