デヴィッドの回答をおくってくれてありがとう。彼のアンチ・モルモニズム（教会に反対する考え）に対する見解は古い教会員の間ではかなり一般的なものだね。そういう見方はそれなりにその人たちには助けになっていると思うし、それはいいことだ。残念なのは、そういう見解は、一部の教会員や求道者の人たちの助けにはならないことだ。それで、多くの人は何の問題もなく教会への批判を無視して前向きに進んでいっているにもかかわらず、こういう批判にまともに信仰を揺るがされてしまう人もいる。
たとえば、ワードによっては、まったく影響がないか、あるいは、ほんのわずかな人だけが教会を去るっていう状況で、問題は小さいわけだけど、僕の知っている限り、あるワードでは、一番強い家族が３家族も教会を去って行ったなんてことが起こっている。それから一人の伝道部長が去っていった。２人以上の扶助教会の会長が去って行ったし、少なくとも、ビショップが一人去っていった。一人の神殿長もだよ。
教会を去った一人の姉妹と何回かにわたってじっくりと話し合ったことがある。彼女は教会を去りたくなかったんだ（少なくともそう口では言っていたし、そう語る表情は誠実そのものだった）。しかし、批判者たちの「真実」に直面して教会を去るしかなかったんだ。自分の疑問に答えてくれるものをどこにも見つけることができなかったから。
それから、FAIRとかFARMのものやウエブサイトに掲載されているものを読んで教会に戻ってくる人々もいる。お礼の便りが僕たちのところにたくさん届いている。スコット

Hi Wade,
Thanks for forwarding David’s response on to me. His sense of anti Mormonism is very common among many long term members of the church—and it works for them. That is a good thing. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work for some other members and investigators. So while many are comfortable ignoring it and moving on, there are those who are genuinely shaken by the issues involved.
In some wards, no one—or only a few people leave the church over this issue; but I know of one ward where three of their strongest families left. I know of a mission president who left. I know more than one Relief Society presidents, and I know of a few bishops who left. I even know of a temple president who left. I had a good in-depth conversations with one sister who left, and she really didn’t want to leave. (At least that is what she said and she seemed very sincere.) But, she felt she was faced with “the truth” and she had no where to get her questions answered.
I am also aware of people who came back into the church because of FAIR and FARMS and the things posted on the Websites. We get lots of thank you notes.
