TO OUR DEAR MISSIONARIES TO JAPAN

As Presiding Elder and special missionary for the Church, I am  now in Tokyo in order to fulfil my duty and appointment, given to me by the First Presidency. I have traveled various places in Japan and visited the Saints and organized them in some way. I found only a few Saints very faithful to the Church, such as Brother Y. Watanabe and his daughter, Sister Tazuko Watanabe, and Sister Reiko Mochizuki in Tokyo, and Brother and Sister Katsura, Sister Nakayama (formerly Asai) and Brother Hisada in Osaka. Many of the Saints, however, have been entirely unknown as to their faith in the Church and their whereabouts.

I have tried my best to locate them, with some of whom I have already met. Every one of them wished to know your correct addresses, messages, how you are getting along, how your families are, etc., etc.. I thought then, that I should make my effort for the re-union of warm friendship between you missionaries in America and the Japanese Saints in Japan through some magazine or pamphlet.

This magazine with this reason, was born under the name of the Hattatsu or the Progress, for the use of you all and the Japanese Saints. Therefore, I shall be very happy to tell you in this magazine all about the Saints and their activities and church works in Japan. In return, I do wish with my most sincere hope and desire to have your spiritual and material contributions which surely help me a great deal in doing the church works.

We the Japanese Saints do wish to have one meeting-hall at least in Japan, even how small it may be, where we can get together in order to study the Gospel of Christ and our Church doctrines and where we can propagate the Truth of Mormonis to our Japanese people.

Please do contribute whatever you can do for us!
