3) The explanation is simple. We have duplicate ancestors.
4) Back 31 generations, many more than half of the ancestors appear again and again.
5) My last name is Fillmore.
6) But I am only half Fillmore because my mother’s maiden name was Wride.
7) And I am only ¼ Wride.
8) My grandmother Wride was a Stark before she married.
9) But I am only 1/8 Stark.
10) Great grandmother Stark was a Birkenhead before she married.
11) But I am only 1/16 Birkenhead.
12) Great, great grandmother Birkenhead was a While before she married.
13) But I am only 1/32 While.
14) Great, great, great grandmother While was a White before she married.
15) So it go as we climb the genealogy ladder.
16) What does this all mean?
17) I am proud to have the name Fillmore.
18) Back 10 generations there are 520 surnames.
19) Perhaps only one was a Fillmore.
20) So maybe my full name should be Wade Williams Beckstead Davis Wride Selman Birkenhead Stark Fillmore.
